But very few people know that South India has also suffered a tragedy like Jallianwala Bagh.
On that day a group of freedom fighters had gathered in a garden adjacent to the border of Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh.
Police fired bullets at people gathered there and 32 people got involved in the tune of time.
This tragedy took place on 25th April, 1938 in Vidurashtatha. This place falls in the Gauribidan district of Karnataka today.
Vidurashtha was once a village in Kolar of Mysore state. On that day the soil was painted with the blood of 32 freedom fighters.
His martyrdom further strengthened the movement of independence in Mysore State. People came to the streets against British rule and their determination remained till independence.
Today, Vidarashtatha is located just 90 kilometers from Karnataka’s capital Bangalore and only 20 kilometers from Hindupur in Andhra Pradesh.
Under the British rule, Visarashtatha, who came under the authority of Mysore Raj, adopted Gandhi’s path.
This was the time when the struggle of the Congress on independence was at its peak.
Then Mysore Raj passed the order that no nation would flame the flag in their jurisdiction. It was also said that the flag would be shot and killed by blowing a flag.
In protest against this order of Mysore Raj, Congress leaders such as Bhograjju Pattabhi Sitaramaiya, Kate Shyam, Harnekar, Siddhalingaiah, Casey Reddy and Ramachar decided to flag the national flag during the Congress meeting to be held in Shivpura of Mandya district. .
The information of his decision reached the government and police was deployed there. Researchers Gangadhar Murthy and Smita Reddy, in their book ‘Jaleenvala Bagh of Karnatak’, have written extensively on events after the Vidarashtatha massacre.
It has been said that during the three-day meeting when the Congressmen tried to flag the flag, British soldiers arrested them.
In Shivpura, efforts were made to hoist his flag, Congress leaders organized ‘Flag Satyagraha’ for the flag hoisting of National Flag in Vidurashthath on April 18, 1938.
Since this place is close to Andhra Pradesh, then frontline leaders were expected to come here. The leaders circulated in Kolar district and campaigned for this meeting.
The Mysore Government knew all about these activities. He banned the organizing of any program by imposing an injunction in the radius of two kilometers of this Vidurashtha area.
Congress leaders have strategically not done any activity in the first four days.
Nc Leaders led by Nagi Reddy traveled towards Vidarashtatha for the national flag in their hands.
On the way, they distributed pamphlets to the people and breaking the government order, they invited him to join the flag satyagraha. People also associated with them. On the other hand, the people of Andhra Pradesh were also marching under the leadership of Kalluru Subbarao.
Thousands of people had traveled towards Vidurashtha, which also dispersed the police. Eventually, the Satyagrahis of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh reached Widurashttha and gathered in a garden behind the temple.
Leaders were put in jail
Police arrived at the NC. Nagi Reddy and other leaders were arrested and presented to Chikballapur court. The judge asked the leaders to apologize for breaking the rule of the government but they did not apologize after which they were put in jail.
When the people came to know about the prisoners being thrown in Kolar district, then they should come to the streets and they carried out anti-government demonstrations.
After this the situation in Viduradatha became tense. All the Satyagrahis gathered in the garden were full of anger.
It was difficult to control people, after which extra security forces were sent there. There the police were deployed on the rampage. However, the number of people continued to grow there.
The police restricted satyagrahis to one corner of the garden and closed all the way to go.
On April 25, 1938, people from Gauribidanur and nearby villages reached around 10.30 in the morning.
At the same time, about 25 thousand people were waiting to flag the flag. Satyagrahis decided that the flag be hoisted before the scheduled time, but as soon as they were ready to flag the flag, the police turned their guns towards them.
But even after the Satyagrahi did not go back, the police arrested leaders like Vedulweni Surana, Narayan Swamy, Kalluru Subbaraw and removed them from there.
The arrest of those leaders made people angry. Only then Congress leader Ramchar started addressing the Satyagrahis. The Magistrate ordered that they do not have permission to give speeches there, so leave the place but Ramchar did not consider the order. After this the police started lathi charge on the people.
